FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Question: How do I find Valbin career opportunities online?
Answer: The best way to find the most current opportunities is by visiting our career opportunities page and clicking on job titles in the table. There are also career opportunities with Valbin that appear on third party sites like LinkedIn, Indeed, and ClearanceJobs. These third party sites sometimes archive opportunities that have closed on our end and may not otherwise reflect the most up-to-date opportunities for which we are hiring or fielding candidates.
Question: What language proficiency ratings are expected of applicants for linguist positions?
Answer: Language proficiency in English and any of the above languages refers to a rating of three (3) or above in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in both English and the relevant target language. Standards for determining a proficiency level of three (3) come from the Interagency Language Roundtable. Applicant linguists are subject to verification of their proficiency in English and/or a target language, and they must meet the minimum standard as described by the Interagency Language Roundtable prior to beginning work on contract.
Question: What is the difference between "clearance to apply" and "clearance eligibility"?
Answer: The “clearance to apply” column in the careers table indicates the clearance level an applicant must possess in order to apply and be considered for a given position. The “clearance eligibility” column shows a clearance level and/or background investigation and/or polygraph examination that an applicant must be willing to undergo in order to begin work on a given contract. Valbin will not sponsor clearances for positions that require a clearance to apply, but in some circumstances and with customer approval, Valbin may be willing to sponsor investigations and/or polygraph examinations for otherwise highly qualified applicants, in order to meet contract clearance eligibility requirements.
Question: What is the difference between "active," "contingent," and "candidate pool" in the status column?
Answer: “Active” status refers to career opportunities for which there are positions currently available, and which Valbin is actively filling with qualified candidates on an open and ongoing basis. “Contingent” status refers to career opportunities on a contract for which Valbin has submitted a proposal, but one which is still pending award by the government customer. Valbin accepts applications for contingent positions in anticipation of a favorable contract award and subsequent need to fill positions, however timelines for contract award and ensuing transition from “contingent” to “active” status vary by customer and cannot be accurately anticipated. “Candidate pool” positions refer to career opportunities on contracts for which Valbin is considering making a proposal.
